Every sunday, the city center of Lviv is cleared for cars, and the only thing to into account when you cross the streets is the buses and trams that pass by once in a while.
As a Dane, I must be honest to admit that I so much misunderstand the concept of "car-free Sundays". Although, Ukraine in many ways can not promote itself with a environmentally conscious society nor a infrastructure with good facilities for cyclists and pedestrians, I have to admit that I admire and respect the fact that they in Lviv have managed to introduce "car-free Sundays".
Every Sunday, you obviously notice a completely different spirit in the city where families gather in and around The Indepence Square. The air is far easier to inhale and the pedestrian crossings become unnecessary. In other words, urban life becomes much more inviting for a much larger population.
To travel is to put your own society in a different perspective. What does it mean for us to introduce similar initiatives in Denmark?
